The film I´m going to talk about is “Tesis”, directed by Alejandro Amenábar. It was his first film when he was at university. In fact, the movie was filmed in the faculty where he studied.
Amenábar is lucky because the film was produced by José Luis Cuerda, an important Spanish director. He received seven Goya awards for this film.
The movie is about Ángela, a student who is making her thesis about audiovisual violence. But everything changes when she finds a video that shows the death of a girl. She asks Chema, another student at the university, for help. Together, they start to look for the murderer of the girl that appears in the video. Then, Ángela meets Bosco, a strange boy who she falls in love with. But maybe Bosco isn´t the person that she believes and perhaps he is trying to hide a secret.
In my opinion, it is a good film considering that it is the first by this director. Perhaps the photography, the screenplay or the acting aren´t very good. But I think that the editing is beautiful, and the plot too. A negative thing about the movie is that is only based in technique, because the director tried very hard and he forgot to provide something more abstract to the film.
If you compare “Tesis” with other films, you can think that it is boring or worse than a Spielberg´s or a Chaplin´s film, obviously. However, you have to remember that it was the first work of a man who had never filmed anything.
If you are interested in cinema and you want to know more about this art, I recommend that you watch this movie.
